2011 Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting

The Chemical Society of Washington Section of the American Chemical Society will host the 42nd Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM 2011) on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland from Saturday, May 21, to Tuesday, May 24. The meeting’s theme for this event is “International Year of Chemistry.”Michael Doyle of the University of Maryland is serving as general chair of the meeting; Philip DeShong of the University of Maryland is the program chair. This meeting will feature national and international leaders in the chemical sciences and will include a broad selection of symposia. Keynote speakers include Eric Wachsman (Energy Institute, University of Maryland) and Clifton Barry (Laboratory for Clinical Infectious Diseases, NIH) whose lectures are on Energy, Emerging Diseases, and Climate Change. Several Workshops are planned, and there will be events that feature career development, funding opportunities, and education.

The Greater Washington Area houses one of the largest concentrations of chemical scientists and has the greatest diversity of government, industrial, and academic laboratories. The 2011 MARM provides an advantageous setting for interactions between the diverse segments of the chemistry enterprise, opportunities to make connections, and occasions to view different career opportunities. Symposia at MARM take advantage of scientific ans professional talent in the Greater Washington Area to inform those who will be attending MARM 2011 of truly exciting developments in the chemical sciences and of unique opportunities in professional careers.
