Ron Seely has had a long and successful career as a science and environmental reporter for the Wisconsin State Journal. In addition, he is a senior lecturer in the UW-Madison Department of Life Science Communications, where he has taught science writing for over 15 years. As a science reporter, Ron has brought his readers reports on everything from human embryonic stem cells to chronic wasting disease in Wisconsin's deer herd. He has reported extensively on water-related issues, including two award-winning series, one on threats to Wisconsin's groundwater and another on mismanagement of Madison's drinking water supply. He is the 2010 recipient of the American Chemical Society James T. Grady-James H. Stack Award for Interpreting Chemistry for the Public.
Ron’s work has always been in keeping with WISL’s goal of encouraging young scientists to learn effective skills for sharing their discoveries with a variety of audiences. For this reason, in Fall 2011 WISL began offering a new weekly seminar, “Communicating Chemistry to the General Public.” In this seminar students work with Ron on science writing to hone their communication skills to learn to better communicate science to the general public. |
