The Christmas Lecture

Once Upon a Christmas Cheery, In the Lab of Shakhashiri was a free annual program that played to packed houses wherever it was presented. This family event entertained young and old and educated them about the joys of science. The show is broadcast on PBS and local cable stations. Selected Christmas Lectures are available to watch online from PBS Wisconsin:

The Christmas Lecture is presented in the tradition of the great British scientist Michael Faraday (1791-1867), who began presenting his annual Christmas lectures for children and their families at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in the 1840s. A collection of these lectures on the chemical history of a candle can be found online here, thanks to Project Gutenberg. You can also find more of his writings online by searching for "Michael Faraday" on Google Books.
